About Us
~Dava~
Hi~! I'm Dava. Here are a few words and pictures that give you a glimpse at who I am and what I look like. I am married to a wonderful, tolerant man, Ralph, who is my 'Rock of Gibralter'. Without him, I would not, nor could not be who I am. We are parents to a wonderful daughter, Erin, who just turned 17 on April 20th. We live on a small ranch in central California. Although we still have our horses, nowadays we just feed them and let them decorate the landscape. We have mostly traded horses for horsepower as you will see in a moment.
I currently work full-time, midnight shifts no less, but I have so many interests and hobbies, I am going to have to retire just to have the time to fullfill all of my dreams and plans. I enjoy life to the fullest when I can and am always diving head first into subjects that interest me. I cannot bear the thought of 'wanting to do something' and never giving it a try. Maybe that explains why I take on so many things or have so many hobbies. I even took a webpage design class, so I can make this website. I am even crazy enough to be taking a welding class at my age~! Those poor young guys in my class cannot figure me out at all~! But I took it so that I might be able to make garden art. I have lots of ideas for that endeavor. But for now, one of my main hobbies is the picture below.
As you can see by this first picture...I also love racing~! A crazy hobby for a woman my age, but it fits me~! I was given an opportunity to race in the "powderpuff" division of stock car racing, on the dirt track of Petaluma, over 30 years ago, back in the day when men and women did not race together. It got under my skin so much that when we started going to our local racetrack to watch, I would be so antsy in my seat, telling my husband, "I don't want to watch this, I want to DO this~!" One day he made the mistake of telling me, "If we can ever find a mechanic willing to help us, you CAN do this." Well, that was all it took for me and I jumped at the chance~! Now, we are totally immersed, three years later. My daughter and I both race. I drive a Super Stock, although my current car is different from this one. I started this racing endeavor about three years ago. My first racecar, pictured here was a Nova. It was a great car for a rookie like I was. Now I have a camaro, which is a bit more competative. I can't say "I" am yet, but I am definitely trying~! I actually came in 5th place for the first time in my racing career on the season opener~! And it was a tough race; a double lapper to boot~!
I also love to work with all sorts of crafts. But my favorite by far, (because I am not particularly gifted as an artist) is rubber stamp art. I find it to be exactly the craft to help me create beautiful things~! Someone else has done the artwork for me and I get to use what small bit of creativity I have in putting it all together~! I am also in college taking graphic art classes. My favorite class is working with Photoshop~! I have spent hours with some of my homework assignments and never get tired of it~! I have a business name that I use called, "Celestial Dreamtime Productions." I hope to one day have a working graphic arts business under that name. Here are a couple of more pics of me, the next one is me acting silly in the wind on our property, which gets very windy all the time~!
Below is a picture of my wonderful family taken in November as we posed for OT Project for our Year-End Awards. Erin came in 7th place and made "Rookie of the Year" and I came in 9th place and won the prestigious, "Most Improved Driver" award. (Sorry for the 'proof' shot but my scanner was not working to get the purchased picture ready in time for this webpage posting.)
Although this will be my first mission to help those from the underpriviledged country of Honduras, it is my desire to continue being able to offer help long after. Because of this impending mission, I have also begun an intensive program to learn Spanish. (Surely I can get the basics down by August :)~!
~Erin~
Hello, I would like to tell you a little about me. My name is Erin. I am 17 years old and live in Tracy, CA. All of my life, I have lived on a ranch with horses, dogs, cats, and chickens. I used to be very involved with my horses, keeping them well-groomed and in shape. Unfortunately, for the past few years, I have become less active with them due to my love of racing. But, I will always be a cowgirl at heart. I am called 'Sweet Pink' because I love the color pink so much. Even my truck sports the color~!
As for my racing hobby, I race a mini super truck (MST) at our local hometown track. In 2004, I entered the field as a rookie expecting to do just as good as the rest of the drivers. It was not long before I realized that was a bit high on my expectation chart. Boy did I learn alot~! Being a rookie, I took in all the information I could from the drivers of the MST division, and tried my hardest to increase my driving skills. At the end of last year's season, I won "Rookie of the Year" and came in 7th in the point standings. This is my second year of racing in MST's and I intend to keep learning and taking in what I can. I definitely have learned that you don't just waltz right in and win. There is hard, hard work to trying to make it to the top and those wins do NOT come easy~!
I am blessed with two loving parents, Ralph and Dava who have done nothing but give me support, guidance and love. I praise God for the life I was given and I think that has a huge part in why I want to go to Honduras. I want to be able to give back something to those that need it, as I have been so very blessed myself. I have heard that there are entire villages of children in Honduras who go year to year without a new pair of shoes. I hope to use this mission to reach out to those children with whatever we can do to better their lives. I am praying for the guidance and direction to find a way to continue to help them after this mission. Here we are...taking our first step~!
